FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Diego, CA – March 26, 2025

Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP) has received a $1,000 Policy Grant from the Animal Place Food for Thought program, in recognition of SNAP’s new vegan menu policy. Grant funds will be used to provide vegan food at SNAP’s 4th annual Pickleball for the Pets to be held on August 23, 2025. All funds raised at this event will go towards SNAP’s mission of saving lives by reducing pet overpopulation.

In alignment with SNAP’s values towards the humane and compassionate treatment of all animals and to reflect this commitment, SNAP’s board members amended our bylaws to adopt a vegan menu policy on January 13, 2025. Going forward, SNAP will ensure that only plant-based (vegan) food and beverages are provided at organization-hosted events. Vegan options will be available at events that are held by others to benefit SNAP.

SNAP provides no- and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for pet dogs, cats, and rabbits of financially challenged clients in underserved San Diego County communities. We help to prevent the birth of unwanted litters and the suffering that often follows. Licensed veterinarians deliver these services on a 40-foot mobile unit (the “Neuter Scooter”) that travels across San Diego County to meet clients where they are needed most, and in the SNAP East Spay Center in El Cajon, California. SNAP serves urban areas as well as rural communities and Native Nations, where low-income and underserved residents have the additional burdens of limited veterinary care and few transportation options.

“Enacting a vegan menu policy is a great step that companion animal rescue and welfare organizations can take towards helping people recognize the connection between compassion for animals and their food choices” said Dorell Sackett, SNAP’s Executive Director.
