FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Diego, CA – October 21, 2025

The Bill and Ginger Winder Family Foundation has granted $15,000 to Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP). The grant funding will provide 155 affordable spay/neuter surgeries for pets of low-income San Diego County residents. The surgeries will be done on SNAP’s mobile surgical suite, which travels around the county to areas where services are most needed, and in the SNAP East Spay Center in El Cajon. Sterilizing these 155 pets will make a tremendous impact towards reducing unwanted litters and the number of cats, dogs, and rabbits entering the local shelter system.

At the time of their spay/neuter, pets will also receive a free pre-anesthetic health exam, vaccinations, nail trimming, flea and tick treatment, deworming, pain medication, recovery collars, cardboard carriers, and wound care as needed. SNAP provides microchips for pets whose owners want them for only $10.

The need for affordable spay/neuter has never been more urgent. San Diego County animal shelters continue to be overcapacity and in crisis. Preventing the birth of unwanted litters is the most effective way to reduce the number of animals entering local shelters. Reducing the number of homeless domestic animals in the community also helps to protect wild songbirds and other small animals from predation, and reduce the spread of rabies, parvo, distemper, and other communicable diseases.

About Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP)
SNAP was founded in 1990 and became a registered nonprofit organization in 1996. SNAP was the first organization in the San Diego region to implement programs to reduce the number of companion animals euthanized in local animal shelters. SNAP brings no- and low-cost spay/neuter services directly to communities struggling with chronic pet overpopulation. SNAP has become the primary provider of affordable spay/neuter services in San Diego County, and has fixed more than 95,000 dogs, cats, and rabbits since 2003.
