Are you eligible?
Using our chart, find out if you and your pet should schedule with SNAP! Note: there are 2 qualification areas: Tier 1 and Tier 2. Be sure to scroll! We use this and the information you provide as a guide to determine your eligibility. We schedule pet owners who cannot afford a private veterinarian. If you meet the criteria, you will move to the scheduling phase. If not, you can still get your pet spayed or neutered at an affordable rate through a referral to partner veterinarians. Please understand that due to high demand, our reservations fill up quickly. (See Additional Resources page.)
YOUR INFORMATION (we’re only counting people for this part)
Our Eligibility Chart is based on the number of family members and the combined household income. Note: there are 2 qualification areas: Tier 1 and Tier 2. Be sure to scroll! If you determined you and your pet are eligible, go to the SNAP Neuter Scooter Application and complete all the information requested. Be sure to hit the submit button after you fill out the application!
PET SPECIFICS (now for the animals!)
SNAP will no longer schedule English or French Bulldogs due to a significant number of breeding complications that puts the dogs at high risk during surgery. For all other pets, please make sure your cat or dog is in good physical health (no injuries, seizures or illness) and meets the following qualifications:
- Cats and dogs must be two months old and weigh two pounds, at a minimum, to be spayed or neutered. The male testicles should be descended and/or visible.
- Our medical staff recommends routine vaccines be given prior to scheduling for your pet’s benefit, if/when possible. However, free vaccines are provided if your pet needs them.
- A pre-anesthesia health exam will be performed to determine if any surgical risks are present.
- As a safety precaution, SNAP will not spay or neuter any pets over seven years old, as we are unable to offer/provide pre-surgical blood work as a screening measure for their health prior to surgery. Please take older pets to a traditional veterinary clinic where those options are available.
- If applying for a first-time dog license, eligibility is based on zip code.
If you’re eligible:
Once eligibility is confirmed, you may request an appointment for your pet on the Neuter Scooter surgical bus! Clinics fill up quickly, and we do our best to fit people in at the available locations. There is also an opportunity to be added to the “standby” list. All available options will be discussed during the scheduling phone call.
PLEASE NOTE: No more than three animals from the same family will be scheduled on the same day.
Don’t Qualify?
If your household income doesn’t qualify, there are other options!
(See Additional Resources page.)
Additional for ALL animals if requested by pet owner at time of surgery:
- $25 cryptorchid
- No extra charge for pregnant or in heat females
- $10 for microchipping
- $25 for simple hernia repair if medically necessary (we do not fix for cosmetic reasons)
