FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Diego, CA – May 13, 2026
MuttNation Foundation and Doris Day Animal Foundation have awarded a grant to Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP), to help provide free spay/neuter services for pets of junior enlisted military personnel stationed in San Diego County. The MIL-SNAP program honors the service of E1 to E4 pay grade military members by helping to relieve the financial burden of taking care of their pets and unwanted litters, and contributes to reducing overcrowding at the already overcapacity Camp Pendleton Animal Shelter and other local animal shelters. Having their pets spayed or neutered also helps military personnel to obtain free temporary boarding or foster care for their pets during deployments, training, or official military travel.
“During May’s Military Appreciation Month, we are especially grateful for this grant that will help military families care for the pets they love while also helping reduce pet overpopulation in our community. Every surgery makes a difference,” said SNAP’s Executive Director, Dorell Sackett.

About Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP)
SNAP was founded in 1990 and became a registered nonprofit in 1992. SNAP was the first organization in the San Diego region to implement programs to reduce the number of companion animals euthanized in local shelters. SNAP brings no- and low-cost spay/neuter services directly to communities struggling with chronic pet overpopulation. SNAP has become the primary provider of affordable spay/neuter to the San Diego community, and has fixed more than 95,000 dogs, cats, and rabbits since 2003.
