FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Diego, CA – April 10, 2026
San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization (CECO) has awarded a Community Grant to Spay-Neuter Action Project to provide 500 free rabies vaccinations to pets of low-income San Diego County residents. SNAP’s free pet vaccination program helps keep pets healthy and safe, and helps prevent transmission of rabies and other contagious illnesses in the county.
All unvaccinated cats and dogs who are spayed and neutered by SNAP are eligible for free rabies vaccinations, which are administered by SNAP’s Registered Veterinary Technicians under the supervision of SNAP’s California licensed veterinarians. Rabies is a fatal but preventable viral disease that can spread to people, pets, and wildlife through the bites and scratches of an infected animal. Rabies vaccinations are mandatory for all dogs in California, by four months of age. Rabies vaccinations are optional for cats, but are highly recommended by veterinary and public health professionals.
“We are grateful to the San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization for their longstanding commitment to giving back to the community, and for recognizing the importance of providing these potentially life-saving vaccines to pets who need them,” said SNAP’s Executive Director, Dorell Sackett.

About Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP)
SNAP was founded in 1990 and became a registered nonprofit public charity in 1992. SNAP was the first organization in the San Diego region to implement programs to reduce the number of companion animals euthanized in local shelters. SNAP brings affordable spay/neuter services directly to communities struggling with chronic pet overpopulation, on our Neuter Scooter mobile surgical suite and at the SNAP East Spay Center in El Cajon. We have spayed and neutered more than 95,000 dogs, cats, and rabbits since 2003. SNAP has always offered free rabies vaccines to all dogs and cats who we have spayed or neutered.
