FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Diego, CA – March 6, 2026

San Diego, CA — Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP) is proud to announce it has received a generous grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation to fully fund six free spay and neuter clinics serving Tribal communities on Indian reservations throughout San Diego County. Thanks to this funding, SNAP’s mobile surgical suite, the Neuter Scooter, will provide completely free spay and neuter services for Tribal members during visits scheduled for March, April, and May at the Barona, Rincon, and Santa Ysabel Reservations. Tribal members from neighboring reservations are also welcome to take advantage of these services. Each clinic will perform up to 30 surgeries per day, helping to reduce pet overpopulation and improve animal health within Tribal communities. In addition to spay and neuter surgeries, Tribal members will also receive a comprehensive package of free veterinary services for their pet, including:

  • Rabies vaccination
  • DAPPv vaccines (dogs)
  • FVRCP vaccines (cats)
  • Free microchipping
  • Free nail trims
  • Free physical examinations

“SNAP is extremely grateful to the S. Mark Taper Foundation for their commitment to nonprofit organizations and our work,” said SNAP’s Executive Director, Dorell Sackett. “This grant will allow us to remove financial barriers and bring critical veterinary care directly to Tribal communities that need it most.”

About Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP)
SNAP was founded in 1990 and became a registered nonprofit organization in 1992. SNAP was the first organization in the San Diego region to implement programs to reduce the number of companion animals euthanized in local shelters. SNAP brings no- and low-cost spay/neuter services directly to communities struggling with chronic pet overpopulation. SNAP has become the primary provider of affordable spay/neuter services to the San Diego community, and has fixed more than 95,000 dogs, cats, and rabbits since 2003.
