FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 4, 2024

The Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP) announces a temporary suspension of spay and neuter services at the East County Spay Center, due to an upcoming major construction project on the main building. While this may be a temporary inconvenience, it comes with the exciting news that the facility, generously donated by local veterinarian is about to undergo a complete transformation.

The  new vision will bring a state-of-the-art pet therapy center to our community, featuring amenities that include a therapy pool, grooming services, additional exam rooms, a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, and an MRI suite. To accommodate this extensive renovation, construction is set to begin next week. The work will include roof repairs, deconstruction, and new construction, resulting in significant activity around the building, including dumpsters and debris in the parking areas.

Temporary Clinic Suspension and Future Plans Due to the scope of construction and its impact on our operations, SNAP must temporarily pause all clinics at this location until further notice. We are committed to working alongside the owners and the construction teams to ensure the project progresses smoothly and that we can resume services as soon as possible.

During this downtime, SNAP will also use the opportunity to review and restructure our operations, including the exciting hiring of a new SNAP East clinic manager. The job description is available online, and we are actively accepting applications. We encourage those with management experience who have a passion for helping people and animals to apply and join our dedicated team.

Continuing Services at SNAP North Neuter Scooter Although the East County Spay Center will be temporarily closed, SNAP will continue offering affordable surgeries through the SNAP North Neuter Scooter, which remains active and serves North County residents, providing 30 surgeries per day.

Impact on Staff and Community We acknowledge that this temporary closure will bring challenges, including necessary staff layoffs. We are committed to complying with California labor guidelines and providing support to our employees throughout this transition.

SNAP remains dedicated to our mission of reducing pet overpopulation and providing spay and neuter services to underserved communities. We are grateful for your understanding and support as we undergo these necessary changes, and we look forward to serving you in our new, improved facility soon.
